The Lake Erie Shoreline continues to take a pounding this morning with strong winds and high waves.

A gale warning was issued for western Lake Erie yesterday, peaking around 80 kilometres an hour overnight.

The wind is expected to die down later today.

In the meantime, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is warning of the potential for damage to shoreline protection works and further erosion.

In an online statement, the LTVCA says “these winds present a greater risk than usual for the interior areas of Rondeau Bay such as Erieau and Shrewsbury and for the shoreline just east of Rondeau Provincial Park.  However the wave action will still affect areas more typically impacted by wind events on Lake Erie such as Erie Shore Drive.”
