Hetherington Eyes Federal Conservative Nomination

A long-time radio host  is throwing his hat into the ring for the federal Conservative nomination.

With Bev Shipley retiring at the end of this term, Greg Hetherington is putting his name forward in the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

“I don’t have any political background, other than the fact that I’ve been very tuned in to provincial, federal, municipal politics all my life, so this job kind of lead me down this path,” says Hetherington. “I think being a business owner is a big plus. Someone that’s run a business in a community, understands taxes, what the government does to help us, or doesn’t help us in some cases”.

He says there are two main issues he wants to focus on, including the deficit.

“We are reaching close to 1 trillion dollars of a federal deficit, and we’re going to leave our kids and our grandkids in a mess. We need to help people, but we have to do it within our means. Locally, in our riding, farmers are concerned about the NAFTA agreement, what’s going to happen with that agreement, how will affects farms and farmers. Being a cheerleader, being a voice for the farmers and making sure we get a good deal is very important for this riding in particular,” Hetherington explains.

Hetherington is in the running with six other candidates at this point, including Wallaceburg resident Kevin Mitchell and Middlesex Centre’s Bruce Lamb.

A life-long Chatham-Kent resident, Hetherington launched 99.1 FM CKXS in 2009 and has lived in Wallaceburg since. He says he’s dedicated the past 30 years to help the community and to make it a better place to live. Some of his community highlights include being a volunteer/organizer for over 1,500 charity events in Chatham-Kent since 1988, Co-Chair of the 2017-18 Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign, and Co-Chair of the Festival of Giving 2013-15.
