CKHA Going Under the Microscope

It’s inspection time at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The hospital is going through the accreditation process this week, which means a team will be going through the properties from top to bottom to make sure everything is up to standard.

First officials at the CKHA conduct a self-assessment to see for themselves what works and what doesn’t prior to Accreditation Canada arriving at the site.

Four surveyors and a patient advisor will make up the team that will take five days to check everything out.

“That allows you to go through and identify based on what are established best practices,” says CEO Lori Marshall. “this is a voluntary process, hospitals are not required to engage in accreditation, and I would say you would probably not want to go to a hospital that wasn’t accredited.”

The survey will include everything in the organization, from the boardroom to patient experience.

Marshall says a verbal report will be presented at the end of this week, but it will be a couple of months before they get the final results.
