Treaties Recognition Week

It’s Treaties Recognition Week.

More than 40 treaties and other land agreements cover Ontario.

Students and staff across Ontario will be learning more about the treaties between Canada and Indigenous peoples.

Lambton-Kent District School Board Director Jim Costello says the initiative is a group effort between Crown-Indigenous Relations, Northern Affairs Canada, and school boards across the province.

He says it’s an opportunity to raise awareness about treaties and this important aspect of Canada’s history.

The board has also implemented the Traditional Territorial Acknowledgement during opening exercises at school and during meetings, recognizing the traditional land of the four First Nation communities within the LKDSB catchment area.
