Charges have been laid against a Chatham man following a dog attack earlier this month.

On January 3rd, animal control officials say a 64-year-old man was walking his dog near Sandys and McNaughton Ave when they were attacked by an American bulldog that was off its leash.

In the process of defending his own pet, the victim suffered serious bites to his hand and was taken to hospital.

the man received serious injuries to his left hand while his dog, a 9-year-old Shih Tzu, was also bitten and is recovering.

The other dog’s owner, a 29-year-old man, is facing several charges under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act, including not taking reasonable precautions to prevent the dog from biting.

The attacking dog is being held at the animal shelter, and the owner will be in court in March.
