There will be some local content in this morning’s Order of Canada investiture in Ottawa.
Chatham-native Douglas Stenton is among a group of 22 Canadians to be named as Members of the Order.
The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation – Stenton is being honoured for his work in preserving the cultural legacy of Canada’s north.
Along with being Nunavut’s first official archaeologist, Stenton’s research into 1845’s ill-fated Franklin Expedition helped lead to the discovery of HMS Erebus in 2014.
The honours will be handed out in a ceremony at Rideau Hall and streamed live on the Governor General’s website (www.gg.ca/en/live)
