Canniff Says 1.99% Tax Hike is Investment in CK

The 2019 municipal budget is in the books and interim tax bills will be hitting mailboxes soon.

When they do, Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff wants people to think of this budget as an ‘invest in CK’ budget.

“When you look at the amount we’re investing in infrastructure and our community – incrementally that’s about $5-million dollars that we’re putting in those things alone. This will benefit the community, and we came in under inflation,” says Canniff.

The Municipality approved spending $4.7-million in infrastructure, with another $550,000 into underground sewers, storm sewers, and drains.

The Community Partnership Fund is receiving another $387,000 to go toward approved community projects and events.

The final tax increase was 1.99%, which officials say equates to about $57 extra per year for the average household in Chatham-Kent.
