When it comes to gravel roads, some councillors are concerned about where that gravel is from. 
The Municipality started purchasing railway gravel in 2015 and has been using it on rural roads since then.
But Wallaceburg councillor Carmen McGregor is wary of it, saying the railroad gravel gives off a darker, greasier dust.
“Gravel’s been an issue in mind for years because I lived on a road that was gravel with that particular granular,” McGregor explains. “I did have concerns about the health side of things, which the municipality has solved those and done the appropriate testing.”
Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Thomas Kelly says extensive testing is done on the gravel to make sure it’s safe for human health when it comes to dust, and safe for use on roads.
