Chatham-Kent Police now say the entire story was a lie.

Authorities say countless hours were spent canvassing the area over the weekend and trying to find video surveillance of the alleged incident – something police say could have been avoided had everyone been honest from the get-go.

The girls in this case got off with a warning, but residents are being reminded that making false statements to police is a criminal offence.
