As the provincial government rolls out wholesale changes in health care, the local health care providers were asked to submit a self-assessment as a first step to creating a Chatham-Kent Health Team.
President and CEO of the CKHA, Lori Marshall says the paperwork was submitted two weeks ago.
“We should hear on or about June 3rd if we move to the next stage, of developing a full application and then that would be due July 12th and then the first Ontario health teams would be named in the fall, so we are really excited about the opportunity to move ahead,” says Marshall. “I would say it’s different from the LHIN, because the LHIN is a planner and a funder. Where as the Chatham-Kent Ontario health team would be the deliverer of service. So all the organizations who are involved and it’s all about how do we smooth the transitions of care for patients and the creation of common standards and expectations so people don’t fall through the cracks.”
Marshall says the health team system would allow local health care providers to work even closer together.
