Just one week after celebrating the purchase of a historic building in Chatham, a heritage property in Thamesville could be approved for demolition.

In a report to council, building staff are asking that a multi-use property at 68 London Rd. be removed from the heritage register.

The property, known for years locally as the ‘Haymes Variety’ was built in 1860.

It’s been vacant and fallen into disrepair recently, and efforts to get the owner to fix it up have gone unheeded.

Council will be asked to remove it from the register to make way for a demolition order.
