Extended Flood Warnings

Following in the footsteps of other conservation authorities, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is issuing a standing message for Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair shorelines.

Record high water levels, strong winds and persistent erosion has left the authority little choice but to issue the standing message, which will last for at least the month of July.

Water levels on both Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair have broken records. Since the end of May, average water levels on Lake Erie have risen approximately 10 cm to record setting heights. On Lake St. Clair, average water levels at the end of June exceeded the all-time monthly record set in October of 1986 by about 8 cm.

Officials say flood warnings will continue to be issued in the face of storms or strong winds.
