A Chatham-Kent Police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a cyclist was struck by a cruiser.
The province’s police watchdog began investigating following the incident on November 15, 2018 when police were chasing a man who’d stolen a woman’s purse.
Authorities say the suspect drove his bike onto a grassy area off McNaughton Avenue West, got off his bike, and was hit by the cruiser, suffering a fractured arm.
Interim SIU Director Joseph Martino says the officer’s decision to follow the accused onto the grass had serious consequences, it doesn’t constitute reasonable grounds for criminal charges.
