Home owners could be responsible for applying salt to the sidewalks in front of their houses this winter.
In a report to council on Monday, staff is recommending a phase in to meet new provincial regulations.
This winter the municipality would clear all the sidewalks, and salt the downtown cores of each community. That will come at an additional cost of 35k a year.
Next winter, every homeowner and business would be required to not only shovel, but salt within 48 hours of snow or ice formation.
The estimated cost for the municipality to handle all the work is a half million annually.
