The municipality is getting ready to formally ask the provincial government for twin pad arena funding.
Before any request for funding can be sent off, some changes are being made to better fit the criteria.
Council will be asked to give the go ahead to staff to submit the application to the Community, Culture and Recreation Funding Stream for the arena, for a smaller size twin pad that could seat up to 2200 people.
In consultation with the province, upper level bureaucrats made it clear that maximum funding would be capped at $36.6-million, about 10-million less than the original ask by the municipality.
The application window closes November 12th, and it’s expected it could be at least six more months before a final decision is heard.
