With residents along Erie Shore Drive on the clock to evacuate their homes, others from across the municipality are stepping up to help.

Cathy Hoffman, Chatham-Kent’s Director of Corporate Services there’s a fairly quick turnaround in getting potential volunteers matched up with those in need.

“As calls come in and ask for help, we’ll match those up,” Hoffman says. “We’ll also be working very closely with our community human services team so if someone calls in and says ‘I have a need,’ then we’ll match them up on my team’s end of things with a person who might be able to help them.”

Hoffman says they’re accepting any and all offers of help, from packing up homes and filling sand bags to those who have space for evacuated residents to stay.

Those who would like to offer some form of help call the Civic Centre at 519-360-1998.

Residents looking information on how the Erie Shore Road dike emergency could affect them should call the Civic Centre at 519-360-1998 between 8:30am and 8pm.
