The Wallaceburg-based Childs family soup kitchen is now helping feed nearly 650 local residents.
Mark Childs of The Black Goose says the delivery-style soup kitchen assisted approximately 640 in need throughout Wallaceburg, Dresden, Port Lambton and Walpole Island on Friday.
“We originally anticipated cap of about 300 but the need is a whole lot greater right now,” said Childs.
Childs adds that the work could not be complete without the helpful small army of volunteers who have jumped at the chance to help.
“It’s a feel good project,” says Childs. “When our volunteers deliver, there are some very thankful people. We feel good delivering it, and it’s a nice feeling to see those people in need to get a little bit of help. We have a great crew of volunteers.”
The soup kitchen is supplying families with soup and an Italian-style loaf of bread on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
