The Federal Emergency Student Benefit got a bump in the house Wednesday.

The Prime Minister was looking for it to sail through the weekly meeting of MP’s in Ottawa.

Before it was given unanimous consent the opposition pushed for more than the initial 9 billion dollar price tag.

It called for post secondary students and recent grads whose job prospects to get $1,250 a month, and students with a disability or dependents would receive $1,750.

The opposition wanted that increased to $2000 a month.

It is now equal to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.

There is also a new grant program that would see students receive up to $5,000 for fall tuition if they volunteer in a sector needing assistance.
