Ontario added 377,000 “new” jobs to the labour market last month.
Minister of Labour, Training, and Skills Development Monte McNaughton says it’s welcome news for families and businesses.
“The manufacturing numbers specifically are showing an increase overall, so that’s good news, specially in southwestern Ontario and Chatham-Kent,” the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP says. “June was the month we started opening Stage 2 of the economy, so it was more people going back to work and more open signs on businesses.”
McNaughton says some of the numbers can be attributed to dealing with the pandemic itself, including those who’ve been manufacturing PPE such as face shields and masks for front line workers.
“We’ve got a huge hole to dig out of in Canada and in Ontario and quite frankly right across the world. We’re getting there and we’re turning our focus now to the economic recovery of the province.”
