Lord Selkirk Bridge Closure Extended

The closure of Wallaceburg’s Lord Selkirk Bridge has been extended an additional day.
The crossing over McNaughton Ave will now be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday daily from 7AM to 7PM, re-opening each evening.
This time around, work is being done on the steel grating deck after some significant bouncing has been noticed with traffic over the bridge.
Chris Thibert, Chatham-Kent’s Director of Engineering and Transportation Services, says this is the final planned closure for the bridge.
“As part of the project warranty work, the new open steel deck grating needs to be welded in more locations to ensure the open steel deck grating panels do not bounce under traffic loading,” Thibert says in an email to CKXS News. “This bouncing was observed through our continual inspection of the bridge as part of the warranty maintenance period.”
Thibert says there are no safety concerns associated with the grating, but if left unattended, the panels won’t last their design life expectancy.
