Chatham-Kent’s medical officer of health is pushing for some amendments to local COVID-19 protocols.
The mandatory mask bylaw will be up for discussion once again at Monday night’s council meeting, but Colby says it’s to potentially add some of his own recommendations.
“When the mask bylaw was being considered, I made a request that hand sanitizer be standardized to be available in public and retail venues across the municipality,” Colby says. “The other though is a unique situation where we’re going to make physical distancing mandatory in public (and) retail environments.”
Colby has long maintained those two measures are the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“Tough to enforce,” Colby says. “If we’re going to mandate other types of behaviours, we might as well mandate the one that is most effective in preventing the transmission of this.”
Monday night’s session will be another virtual meeting for Chatham-Kent council.
