Pet and Wildlife Rescue is launching a low-cost spay/neuter program to help control Chatham-Kent’s cat population.
Operations manager Myriam Armstrong says it’s being run by a voucher system.
“They can pay $40 to get a voucher and that will cover the cost to spay or neuter their cat, we’re also throwing an extra little bonus with a microchip, and that way if their cat goes missing, they’ll have an easier way of finding them.”
Armstrong says they’ve taken in over 60 cats in the last few days alone.
“We can’t really blame people for not fixing their cats sometimes because it is quite expensive,” Armstrong says. “We know there is a need for it, obviously nothing’s free so it’s not easy to collect enough money to offer it, but we have some great partnership with local vets.”
You can pick up a voucher online at pawr.org or by visiting the Chatham-Kent Animal Shelter at 405 Park Avenue East in Chatham.
The program is being limited to 500 cats, with vouchers good through October 1st, 2021.
