The Chatham-Kent Labour Council and Women United are teaming up to help stock local food banks with feminine hygiene products.
It costs the average woman $235 a year to buy the necessary supplies, which can be a huge burden on those dealing with poverty, homelessness, or financial instability.
“Feminine hygiene products are often one of the most requested item but are rarely donated. In CK, there are many are people with jobs but after life expenses such as rent, and food there is little left over to cover expenses such as feminine hygiene products.” spokesperson Marge Muharrem says.
A drive-by donation drop-off is being held at the United Way offices on McNaughton Ave West in Chatham to mark Tampon Tuesday, on October 20, collecting packages of tampons, pads, and menstrual cups.
For those wishing to support Tampon Tuesday but not able to attend donation day or workplaces looking to get involved are asked to contact Marge Muharrem of Women United marge@uwock.ca 519-354-0430 x274.
United Way of Chatham-Kent, will also be accepting advanced donations and deliveries during office hours at 425 McNaughton Ave West, Chatham.
