CK Public Health is confirming three positive cases of COVID-19 within Chatham-Kent’s school communities.
A school service provider is the first individual testing positive for the infection within a school community in Chatham-Kent. This individual is a service provider for both the St. Clair Catholic District School Board and Lambton-Kent District School Board and is self-isolating. Due to privacy considerations, no further information about the individual can be provided.
Two cases of the coronavirus have also been confirmed at at St. Anne Catholic School in Blenheim. The health unit says the two positive individuals contracted COVID-19 outside of school and are self-isolating. Due to privacy considerations, further information about the individuals can not be provided.
CK Public Health is working with both school boards to provide next steps and additional support. Public Health has contacted close contacts of the individuals testing positive and have advised all contacts to isolate as a precaution until further direction is provided.
Public Health has also notified the school communities affected by the service provider’s positive test (Ursuline College Chatham, St. Anne Catholic School in Blenheim, Harwich-Raleigh Public School and Blenheim District High School) and contacted close contacts of the positive individual, while advising contacts to isolate as a precaution until further direction is provided.
If you have not been contacted by CK Public Health, you have not been in close contact with the positive cases in this current situation.
A total of 87 students from four schools across both school boards were sent home yesterday out of an abundance of caution due to potential exposure.
Public Health asks residents and parents to continue to follow public health advice to keep COVID-19 controlled in our community: only travel for essential purposes, physically distance (2 metres) from others, wear a mask, wash your hands or use 70% alcohol hand sanitizer frequently, and stay home if you are unwell.
