A special announcement is expected for the Wallaceburg site of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance this Friday.
Lambton-Kent Middlesex MPP and Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton is making the announcement Friday morning alongside CKHA officials
A funding announcement previously came down from the province in late September for both campuses of the CKHA.
At that time, CKHA CEO Lori Marshall said more than half of the nearly $2.2 million in provincial funding through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund will be spent at the Wallaceburg site.
“Of the $2.2 million, about 1.1 million is specifically designated for the Wallaceburg site for asbestos abatement, a special project there,” Marshall explains. “We need to remove all the asbestos in the basement of the east wing in advance of, eventually, we will have to take that part of the building down as we build out.”
Marshall says some funding will also go towards code compliance and updating the Wallaceburg site’s fire and sprinkler system.
Close to $80,000 has been earmarked for the Chatham hospital to work on exhaust and isolation fans and finishing up the operating room in the new urology department.
Marshall calls the funding a show of confidence in the Health Alliance’s two-site model, ensuring the infrastructure in both Wallaceburg and Chatham is being taken care of.
That funding comes with a project deadline of March 31st, 2021.
