CK Public Health is confirming four new cases of the coronavirus in Chatham-Kent today.
Two positive cases have been identified at St. Anne Catholic School in Blenheim and one at Ursuline College Chatham, both schools have two classes that have been sent home to quarantine.
A school service provider for both the LKDSB and SCCDSB has tested positive.
Chatham-Kent’s active case count, which was at zero last week, is now up to seven. All seven active cases are self-isolating. There are no Chatham-Kent residents currently in hospital with the virus.
The municipality has had 378 total cases with 368 recoveries and three deaths.
There is one current workplace outbreak listed on the health unit’s website. On Monday, Public Health officials said the workplace is not open to the public, and those who are close contacts have been identified, contacted and given advice by public health.
Despite the two cases connected to St. Anne’s Catholic School in Blenheim, the health unit is not deeming that an outbreak at this time. Typically two positive cases is all that is required to declare an “outbreak”. In this case, the health unit says an outbreak has not been declared because the two positive individuals are believed to have contracted COVID-19 outside of school. Had the virus been acquired at school, it would be deemed an outbreak at that facility.
