One of our traditions around the holiday season as in most centres is the Salvation Army out with their Red Kettles, raising money for local residents in need.

Captain Stephen Holland says overall, the organization hopes to raise $500,000 between October 1st and the end of the year.

“Christmas time is our major fundraiser for programs throughout the year,” Holland says. “Our goal to raise over Chatham-Kent is around $200,00 with our Christmas Kettles. That might be difficult this year because of COVID, so I don’t know how much we’re actually going to raise, but whatever we get we’re thankful for.”

The kettles will be going out in Wallaceburg on November 26th.

This will be the pandemic version of the Red Kettle Campaign of course.

“The kettles will be wiped down, there will be sanitizers, masks available for the person standing at the kettle,” Holland explains. “Some locations will have a plastic partition in front of the kettle so that it keeps it separated from the person standing there, we’ll keep our social distance.”

There will also be a tap option for debit cards this year to limit contact.
