Province announces Covid 19 testing in schools

Ontario also won't reduce school funding by in-class enrollment

The Provincial Government made an announcement today at Queens Park about education.

Premier Doug Ford was joined by Education Minister Stephen Lecce to outline how the government will start asymptomatic testing for Covid 19 in schools.

The program will begin in Toronto, Peel, York and Ottawa. The Province also announced that the funding schools receive will not be reduced based on the number of students attending in-person classes.

Staffing levels will also be increased under the announcement with red zone areas receiving 13 point 6 million dollars to hire up to 175 additional teachers and up to 250 additional caretakers if required.

One of the province’s worst school outbreaks is in Windsor where F.W. Begley elementary was shut down after an outbreak of 26 cases was found.

The number has since increased.
