CK Public Health is reducing the number of Chatham-Kent’s COVID-19-related deaths from four to three.
On Thursday morning’s conference call, Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby told media members the health unit was continuing to investigate the latest death, reported on Tuesday.
Public Health officials say after receiving more information from another jurisdiction, they were able to reduce the number of deaths from four to three.
“The number of deaths include cases where COVID-19 was the immediate cause of death or directly related to the immediate cause of death,” Public Health said in an issued statement. “People with COVID-19 who have died from non-COVID-19 related causes are captured in the resolved category at the top of the report.”
Today’s report also included three new cases and two recoveries for 36 active cases in the community. There are no Chatham-Kent residents currently in hospital with the virus. One institutional outbreak is ongoing at Riverview Gardens in Chatham, the municipality’s first case and outbreak in long-term care. C-K has recorded 518 total cases, 479 recoveries and three deaths as of Thursday afternoon.
Of the current 36 active cases, 25 are labelled as close contact transmission, one is linked to Riverview Gardens, one case is connected to an institutional outbreak outside of Chatham-Kent and one is unknown. A total of right cases are currently pending.
Ontario reported another 1,824 new infections today alongside 14 COVID-related deaths.
Provincial health officials say Ontario has “reached a key threshold” with 203 patients currently in ICU across the province. Officials have previously said unrelated scheduled appointments and procedures could be affected once Ontario hit 150 patients in ICU.
