The Prosperity Roundtable’s Mobile Market, which aims to help those in need get access to fresh, local produce, is back this week after a brief hiatus over the holidays.
The program, which first launched back in September quickly became a poplar stop for those who can’t always afford fresh fruits and vegetables.
“This small market was an idea that’s been percolating in our community for some time,” Mock says. “What we have delivered so far is about 1100 boxes worth of produce, about 13,000 pounds of fresh, local produce delivered to our communities and our customers.
Mock says the reviews they have received talk about how great the food is but it also allows people to connect again with their neighbors.
“We’ve heard stories of seniors saying I’ve reduced my isolation by taking this produce and making meals for my neighbours or my family and friends, or we’ve heard stories about parents who are excited to come pick up their bags because their teenage kids are learning to cook and they’re excited to see what’s in this mystery produce bag that comes every week.”
The Mobile Market will start making the rounds on Tuesday, January 12th.
