There’s a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to construction on Wallaceburg’s Baseline Bridge.
The span has been closed since mid-October for repairs, which Chatham-Kent’s Director of Engineering Christ Thibert says it will be reopened to traffic on Friday, as scheduled.
Thibert says the weather has cooperated, which makes the job go a lot smoother.
“I think that worked out very well in our favour, it allowed us to carry on smoothly with the project with no challenges or hiccups to cause any delays,” Thibert says. “The contractor has been working well with no concerns and no issues.”
Crews will still be on site for the next little while, after the span reopens to traffic.
“The contractor will be continuing with some work adjacent to the bridge and under the bridge after the 15th, but it won’t have any affect on traffic, just going to be some of the required mechanical work and ongoing maintenance, ” Thibert says. “But then again in the spring, once the asphalt plants open back up again, we do have to do some resurfacing and all the required surface work to the bridge.”
There’s no word yet on how long the work in the spring will take, but Thibert says an update will be released to the public closer to that portion of the project.
