Uptick in CK’s COVID Caseload

There’s been another jump in cases of COVID-19 at Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg. The long term care home is now dealing with 87 positive cases amongst staff and residents.

The outbreak in the Medicine Unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has increased to 17 including 12 staff and medical students and 5 patients, while the COVID unit outbreak is holding steady at 2.

Overall, the Public Health Unit is reporting 20 new cases across the municipality, raising the total active caseload to 142.

One more local resident has been admitted to hospital to be treated for the virus. Health Alliance CEO Lori Marshall says there are 9 COVID positive patients in the hospital, including some from outside of Chatham-Kent, 2 COVID patients in the ICU, and 7 being treated in the COVID unit.

The COVID death toll around the region is climbing. Windsor-Essex is reporting two more deaths and 20 confirmed cases. Lambton County, meantime, has three more deaths linked to the virus, and four new infections.

Province-wide, there are 1563 new cases being reported today, along with 36 COVID-related deaths.
