Provincial Funding Could Help With Future Disasters

A new provincial program aimed at helping municipalities with the cost of repairing infrastructure won’t help Chatham-Kent…at least not yet.

The government announced Wednesday up to $2-million in additional funding to help eligible municipalities rebuild infrastructure, including roads and bridges, that have been damaged by extreme weather.

Chatham-Kent officials say that while the money could come in handy in the future, it doesn’t apply to existing issues like Erie Shore Drive or Talbot Trail as applications would have to be submitted within 120 calendar days from the onset of the disaster.

The municipality’s Director of Engineering, Chris Thibert, says there is a large financial eligibility criteria requirement as well, but the municipality will be keeping the program in mind going forward.
