Where there’s smoke, there’s fire at Point Pelee National Park.

A prescribed burn at the park is expected to get underway next week. Officials say planned fires help with the restoration of the ecosystem by preventing the spread of invasive plants and trees, and improving habitat for species at risk.

The burns will continue March 8th to April 15th as conditions allow.

The park will remain open to visitors, however some areas will be closed off for short periods of time to ensure everyone’s safety.
