Local School Boards Get 10 Million For Upgrades

Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholl’s says there is a good chunk of change coming to the local school boards.

A joint Federal/Provincial program is spending hundreds of millions of dollars across the country for retrofits, upgrades and updates to schools that are required because of COVID-19.

The Lambton-Kent District School Board will receive $6.3 million and the St Clair Catholic District school board gets $3.7 million.

SCCDSB Director of Education, Deb Crawford, is thrilled with the cash infusion.

“ One simple thing we are doing in a number of our schools is replacing the windows, so they will open,” Crawford says. “Something as simple as that we never thought of before but it has become very, very important during the pandemic. Between very major changes to small things that in the past we never would have thought were necessary, we are very grateful for the funding.”

Projects can include HVAC updates, improved drinking water, and adding doors and walls to assist with physical distancing.
