A 43 year old Chatham woman has been charged under the Reopening Ontario Act.

On Saturday police investigated a demonstration at St. Clair Street and Grant Avenue.

About 30 people were protesting the latest round of restrictions.

Police spoke with the organizer to reinforce the current rules.

The next day, Sunday, there was a similar protest at the same location and this time there were about 50 protestors. Police spoke with the same organizer again.

Tuesday evening officers arrested the woman and she was charged with failing to comply with the act.

Our primary goal is to engage and educate our community in an effort to seek compliance with enforcement being used as a last resort.  Gatherings such as this not only jeopardize public safety but contradict the law, therefore those responsible must be held accountable,” says Chief Gary Conn.

The woman will appear in Provincial Offences court May 26th.
