Charges Laid Following Lockdown Protest in Sarnia

While authorities continue to mull over potential charges in connection to a lockdown protest in Chatham Monday, Sarnia police have been busy.

So far they have dished out a dozen tickets to people who they say attended similar events at Sarnia City Hall over the past few weeks.

“As part of a measured approach, the Sarnia Police Service has attempted to both educate and warn those individuals in attendance,” Constable Giovanni Sottosanti says in a release. “Unfortunately, our officers have been met with resistance and a lack of willingness to comply.”

Each ticket is worth $880 for violating the Reopening Ontario Act and the province’s stay-at-home orders.

Authorities say the investigation is on-going and more charges are pending as other attendees are identified.
