SIU Investigating CK Police

Chatham-Kent’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the actions of a local officer.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call on Webb Street Wednesday night, and found a 50-year-old man outside the home.

Officials say while officers tried to negotiate with the man, there was an interaction and a taser was deployed, followed by a ‘less-lethal’ round.

Paramedics were called in and say the man did not suffer serious injuries, and was taken into custody.

Under the SIU’s mandate, an investigation is launched whenever a firearm is discharged that is capable of causing serious bodily injury or death to a person.

The agency is asking anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also asking anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
