Provincial Funding Welcome News at CKHA

The province is increasing funding for the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

CKHA is in line for an extra $3.2 million in operational funding, a 2.6% increase.

CEO Lori Marshall says the additional money is welcome news, and provides sustainability for core services in Chatham and Wallaceburg.

“This allows us to not only approach the renewal that’s required from a surgical perspective, but it also allows us to continue with our operations at the hospital and be able to serve the community,” Marshall says.

CKHA officials hope to do an additional 20% of elective surgeries compared to 2020, including an 98 more hip and knee operations.

Marshall says there aren’t specific funding allocations for the two sites in Wallaceburg and Chatham since the hospital runs as one combined operation, but says it supports the continued emergency department in Wallaceburg as well as the growing list of ambulatory and diagnostic services.
