High winds and heavy rain hammered southwestern Ontario last night and into this morning, but there was no serious damage done.
“So far we haven’t seen any reports of funnel cloud or tornados in that area,” Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder says. “Mostly we’ve been seeing reports of very strong winds, some damage, power outages, but nothing to confirm any tornado activity.”
Entegrus crews were kept busy Wednesday evening with power outages in Tilbury and Blenheim. In both towns, hydro wires were knocked down. Crews in Blenheim also had to contend with a fire Wednesday night.
A lightning strike in Wallaceburg Thursday morning knocked out power to an estimated 117 customers.
Should you experience extreme weather, like a potential tornado, first seek shelter and ensure you’re safe. Once it’s safe, reports can be sent to Environment Canada at [email protected] or use the hashtag #onstorm on social media.
