One week before the issue comes back to council, the municipality has released its woodlot preservation report to the public.
A temporary bylaw, including a moratorium on clear-cutting, was put in place April 26th, followed by a public consultation process including an online survey, virtual town hall, and written submissions.
A 19 page report to council recommends that the temporary bylaw be extended to December 14th, and administration start working on a Natural Heritage Advisory Committee, to be discussed by council on September 27th.
Municipal officials would also like to examine trends in Chatham-Kent’s tree cover, mapping out changes every five years between 2010 and 2020. The LTVCA estimates it will take roughly 3-4 months to process and analyze the data. The results could be ready by late 2021, and once ready will be presented to Council.

Municipal officials ask that any new deputations be focused on the recommendations contained in the report and limited to two minutes in duration. Formal deputations should be emailed directly to the Municipal Clerk’s office at [email protected].
