Three local school boards are taking part in a voluntary COVID testing project this fall.
From September 7th until the end of October, vaccinated and asymptomatic high school students who’ve been exposed to COVID-19 through an outbreak or cohort will be offered an at-home test.
High schools that fall under the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit will be taking part, including those with Conseil scolaire catholique Providence, Lambton Kent District School Board, and St Clair Catholic District School Board.
Officials say 13 Public Health Units across the province were selected to take part in the pilot project, based on vaccination rates, positivity rates, enrolment numbers, proximity to testing centres, and geography, among other factors.
The Ministry of Education says participation is voluntary, and students will not be required to disclose their vaccination status in order to receive a testing kit.
Completed tests will be dropped off at school and picked up by an on-demand courier.
