The Walpole Island Education Department, Bjekwanong Kinomaagewgamig, made the announcement today due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the community they would be closing Walpole Island Elementary School.
More information will be coming over the next few days regarding student work packages and classroom work assignments.
Officials are hopeful the closure will be brief, but say student and staff safety is their utmost priority.
