Even with long lines in some parts of the country, it seems not everyone was eager to vote in Monday’s federal election.
In fact, preliminary data from elections Canada shows turnout was around 59%, the lowest it’s been since 2008. When Canadians were called to the polls two years ago, turnout was 67%.
Voter turnout in Chatham-Kent-Leamington, not including those who registered on Election Day, sits just over 61%.
The number of residents who voted in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex is slightly higher at just over 64%.
In the last federal election two years ago, CKL’s voter turnout sat just over 62%, while LKM was a hair above 65%.
The national numbers are expected to change once a few outstanding polls, the million mail-in ballots, and day-of registrants are counted.
