Any unvaccinated municipal staff will have to pay out of pocket if they want to keep coming in to work.
Chatham-Kent employees who want to remain unvaccinated against Covid-19 can do so, but with a catch—they have to get tested for Covid-19 every three days and pay for the test out of their own pocket, which can get a little pricey, as the tests cost about $40.
Chatham-Kent councillor Steve Pinsonneault made a motion during Monday’s council meeting to have the cost of COVID tests covered for unvaccinated volunteer firefighters through the Safe Restart Fund from the province. However, that motion failed.
Chatham-Kent administration said amending the policy would not be fair, as having one group of employees having their testing paid for, while the rest of the employees in the municipality do not get their testing paid for.
