Chatham-Kent stayed in-house in their search for a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Thomas Kelly will be Chatham-Kent’s new CAO, replacing Don Shropshire who is retiring at the end of this year.

Mayor Darrin Canniff made the announcement at the end of Monday’s online council planning meeting.

Kelly was first hired by the municipality in 2012 and is the current general manager of infrastructure and engineering.

He has dealt with a number of complex issues over the past few years, including shoreline erosion, flooding issues, the Wheatley gas explosion aftermath and dealing with Chatham-Kent’s aging infrastructure, such as roads and bridges.

Earlier this fall, Shropshire said he was hoping to be able to pass the baton by the end of the year.
