The province is shifting responsibility for any further COVID restrictions onto regional medical officers of health.
Premier Doug Ford says a local approach makes more sense because with increased vaccination rates, the overall risk of a spike in cases is lower.
A number of health units across the province have already reinstated measures including capacity limits as their local case numbers rise and more pressure is being put on hospital capacity.
Chatham-Kent medical officer Dr. David Colby has said in the past he’s more than willing to tighten restrictions above and beyond what the provincial rules call for, if need be.
As it stands there are 48 active cases of the virus in Chatham-Kent, and three COVID patients being treated in hospital, one of whom is in the ICU.
