Final Talach Bonspiel Keeps Wallaceburg Students Reading

Sue Talach’s memory lives on.

The Wallaceburg public school librarian died 15 years ago, but friends and family have built a legacy in creating the Sue Talach Memorial Book Fund. The fund has provided money for a number of literacy initiatives at the former D.A. Gordon Public School and the current A.A. Wright Public School\

The Talach book fund has raised the bulk of its money through annual curling bonspiels held over the past 15 years at the Sydenham Community Curling Club, which has brought in over $75,000.

Sue Talach’s husband Broni Talach said his wife devoted her life to literacy, so it’s important to carry that message on. The fund has helped to buy books, iPads, brought guest authors into schools and overall helped to inspire kids to read and learn in different ways.

The last-ever Sue Talach curling bonspiel was held on the weekend, but with the funds that have been raised, A.A. Wright students will continue to benefit from the proceeds for a number of years.
