A COVID regulation blitz has landed charges for almost a dozen businesses across Chatham-Kent.
Late last month, provincial offences officers from several government ministries worked with CK Public Health and the municipality of Chatham-Kent to check compliance levels under the Reopening Ontario Act.
80 businesses were visited as part of the two-day campaign with 23 violations uncovered and 11 charges laid.
Officers provided education around and enforcement of the public health requirements with regards to proof of vaccination, screening requirements for both employees and patrons, mask-wearing, proper display of workplace safety plans and more.
Overall, Medical Officer Dr. David Colby says he’s pleased with how businesses and customers have adapted to the “new normal” of COVID life.
“We are very appreciative of the compliance efforts of our local business operations and the patrons who frequent them” Dr. Colby says. “It is not an easy task to repeatedly pivot and to make adjustments to how you have been conducting business at your establishments for years prior.”
Officials say local enforcement officers will continue to monitor business compliance under the Reopening Ontario Act.
