$10-million is coming to Chatham-Kent to support infrastructure projects in the municipality.

The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund announcement is part of a $1-billion investment province-wide to help build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure in small, rural and northern communities.

Chatham-Kent’s outgoing CAO Don Shropshire says the money is double what the municipality usually receives from the province and allocating the funding will be discussed at an upcoming council meeting.

Along with much needed upgrades to local infrastructure, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton says the investment also provides a boost to the skilled trades.

“Across the province, small and rural towns are on the comeback, helping drive economic growth,” McNaughton says in a news release. “As more people look to the benefits of small-town living, this investment will bring thousands of new jobs to the region and ensure we have the services needed to support our residents.”
